A few days ago I was playing Black Ops and I realized that there is literally a sound for everything. The guns, the soldiers, footsteps, etc. You name it there is a sound for it. Except for the sound of the shells hitting the ground. On most of the guns you can see the shells eject from the weapon, but they make no noise when they would hit the ground. It's not much but it would certainly add to the realism feel of it. Do you guys think that this would be a good idea? Or do you think it would get annoying with constant "ping" like sounds every time you fire your gun. Just wanted to get some input on an idea.

How would it cause lag? It's only sound.

Add to the realism? Personally I cringe every time I hear how bad CoD sound is. What they should do first is redo all of their gun sounds, because they're garbage right now.

I agree. Black ops guns do kind of sound like toys in the first place. As far as bullets hitting the ground, eh, there's dirt, snow, grass, and all kinds of environments in the game. When I go shooting, you don't know where the shells go except for maybe pavement.

Because when I play FPS games I want to hear things not kill people.

Funnily enough I always thought WaW had the best sounds...

Uh... yea, no. IW and Treyarch both have pretty awful sound, but Treyarch at least puts a semi realistic "edge" to their toy gun sounds.

Well if they were to use super realistic gun sounds it would be extremely loud. I think they are fine how they are, even though they aren't super realistic.

Last year the BF3 elititst were bragging how BF3 was going to have awesome gun sounds. I honestly do not notice any advantages of BF3 having those superawesome1337 sounds, so meh, don't really care.

Okay guys. You keep talking shit about both companies and how bad their gun sounds are, but can you do better? No. So deal with it. Besides you play the game to kill people and have fun, not listen to guns. You can do that when you actually shoot a real gun.

Exactly, and real guns are extremely loud. You wouldn't be able to hear anything else.

BF3 uses literally real gun sounds. If you can'y hear the difference, it's because you don't want to. Treyarch should do the same thing: record and edit real gun sounds and use those.

I didn't say I didn't notice, I said that it has no advantages whatsoever. So I don't see any reason why Treyarch, or IW for that matter, should do so.

I think the gun sounds are extremely important in fps games as it helps to create atmosphere as well as realism. Personally, I loved the gun sounds in the MW series and WaW had some great sounds too but Black Ops gun sounds were abysmal and along with a few other things really turned me off that game. Thankfully, from what I've seen so far Black Ops 2 sounds much better although still not as good as IW's games.

Having true to life audio in any game, really helps to immerse you into the action, for a more enjoyable experience. I'm just hoping that Treyarch give the explosions a lot more BOOM!! The explosions in CoD:BO felt rather weak in my opinion. Especially when the bomb would go off in S&D. It sounded more like a party popper than an explosion. The explosions in the MW games were a lot more satisfying.

Having said that, at least the gun sounds in CoD aren't as bad as the V8/V12 engine sounds in GT5. They sound like hybrid cars, when they should sound like a monster being woken early from a long hibernation. Polyphony Digital has dropped the ball 5 times in a row on this one...
